Abstract

The dynamics of global industry have shifted the competencies required of workers from a focus solely on hard skills toward the mastery of soft skills. This article aims to analyze the significance of soft skills in the workplace by reviewing various national and international literature from the past five years. The findings indicate that soft skills such as communication, leadership, critical thinking, collaboration, adaptability, and creativity are essential determinants of employee success in the era of the Fifth Industrial Revolution (Industri 5.0). Soft skills are no longer complementary t hard skills but have become core competencies that directly influence both individual and organizational competitiveness. Nevertheless, there remains a significant gap between university graduates and industry demands, largely due to curricula that continue to emphasize cognitive abilities. This review also highlights that Experiential learning methods such as project based learning, hackathons, and coaching or mentoring are more effective in developing soft skills than conventional learning approaches. Another key challenge identified is the lack of comprehensive assessment tools to measure soft skills objectively
