This study aims to examine how santripreneurship — the practice of embedding entrepreneurial management within Indonesian Islamic boarding schools (pesantren) — influences business-unit performance and the broader economic empowerment of santri (students) and surrounding communities. A convergent mixed-methods design was applied. Quantitative data were collected from 126 kiai/ustadz-managers and 210 alumni santri across 42 pesantren in four Indonesian provinces (East Java, Central Java, West Java and South Sulawesi). Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) was used to test the proposed framework, drawing on the Resource-Based View (RBV), social capital theory, and Islamic value orientation. Twenty-four in-depth interviews were thematically analysed using NVivo 14 for triangulation. Santripreneurship practices significantly mediate the relationship between pesantren resource endowments (β = 0.42, p < 0.001), social capital (β = 0.51, p < 0.001) and Islamic value orientation (β = 0.34, p < 0.01) on the one hand, and business-unit performance and economic empowerment on the other. The strongest path runs from social capital through santripreneurship to community economic empowerment (total effect = 0.41). Santri wages, operating surplus, reinvestment, and social-programme allocation differ significantly across business-unit types
